Prior to that match, the Rowdies had won three consecutive matches with a clean sheet in each. Paterson entered the match in the 79th minute and scored 10 minutes later, because the second Rowdies forward this season to score within 10 minutes of making his Tampa Bay debut. Deshorn Brown made his debut as a second-half substitute against Toronto FC II on April 1 and scored within four minutes.
Goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald left the Louisville City match injured after only 16 minutes on Saturday. Matt Pickens entered the match as a substitute in his 2017 debut.
