ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (July 31, 2017) — The Tampa Bay Rowdies have added another attacking piece to the their roster, announcing the signing of midfielder Sebastián Guenzatti on Monday. Per club and league policy, further contract details were not disclosed.
Guenzatti, 26, trained with the Rowdies last week prior to earning a contract. He is the third former member of the Cosmos to sign with the Rowdies, joining Leo Fernandes and Walter Restrepo in Tampa Bay. Guenzatti is a three-time NASL Champion.
“Sebastian is another attacking piece that complements the players we already have,” Tampa Bay Rowdies Head Coach Stuart Campbell said. “He fits in well with the group we have both on and off the field and we’re delighted to have signed him.”
Guenzatti was born in Uruguay and moved the United States at the age of 12. He began his professional career in Uruguay with Peñarol’s Under-19 team before moving on to play for Huracán in 2013.
After a short spell with Huracán, Guenzatti returned to the U.S. to sign for the Cosmos, where he made 81 appearances in four seasons and became a fan favorite.
“I’ve played here several times and the fans have always created a great atmosphere,” said Guenzatti. “The club has been great since I arrived and I am looking forward to meeting the fans on Saturday night. I am extremely glad to be a part of the Rowdies family.”
Guenzatti scored 10 goals in his time with the Cosmos.
He will wear the No. 21 jersey and will be available for selection beginning this weekend when the Rowdies take on the Harrisburg City Islanders at Al Lang Stadium at 7:30. For tickets, call (727) 222-2000 or click here.
